Thoughts of Raymond Carver this afternoon

(Carver's grave inscription)

LATE FRAGMENT
And did you get what
you wanted from this life, even so?
I did.
And what did you want?
To call myself beloved, to feel myself
beloved on the earth.

Paisley, never even thought of self-love -- interesting. I thought only of being loved by others. Thanks for making me think...I reread and you're right. Funny what we miss sometimes....

SAW, really? I don't read it that way. I see it as someone leaving this world self-satisfied. But again, it's probably what I'm reading into it...that's why I love reading so much

Mel, hope it feeds your muse....did you ever read any of Carver's stuff??? I think you'd really dig it.
